Word on the Street: A Weekly Round-Up

Fellow Gapper, Rei, can really rock a vest. He says try it under jackets, too. Show us that, next! [The Common Grounds]

Looking to make a statement? We’ve definitely got this hot pink maxi on our wish list. Dreaming of sporting it with crewnecks and slouchy knits. [Sidewalk Ready]

It’s holiday time and red is always the color de jour but we’re really into the unexpected way girls are wearing the expected shade—like this blogger in our crimson skinnies. So cool. [Style on the Couch]

Did you hit any of our FabSugar events in SF, LA, or NYC? We did, we did! Had so much fun chatting with the editors and snagging a few of their picks. [FabSugar]

Party People: 5 Bloggers Get Dressed

Drinks, dinners, meet-ups, coffees. Every year the holidays bring plenty of parties (yay), and plenty of pressure to look better than ever before (not so yay). For a few ideas on how to mix and mingle your way through the social season in style, we asked a few of our favorite bloggers to ‘dress up’—knowing full well it would mean something different to everyone. You’re invited to get inspired.

Trends We Love: Offbeat Accessories

By now, you’ve got to know how much we love style-stalking our chic colleagues. Lately, we’ve spotted a bounty of fab accessories adorning their heads, necks, and wrists—looking amazingly authentic in the process. And these guys aren’t spending a bundle either—one gal bought her necklace for $10 at a thrift store. What a find! By topping off your outfit with an extra piece of jewelry, found object, or an unexpected little something-something, you can take your look to the level of fashion trailblazer. A possible New Year’s (trend) resolution, perhaps?

Gapeteria: Look of the Day

Michael has a trademark look: tailored layers up top with casually rolled pants and boat shoes. It’s nice to see someone working a style that suits them so well. His personality matches his presentation. Polite and gentlemanly, with a totally mellow tone.

Urban Outfitters blazer. Gap shirt. Gap T. Levi’s skinny trousers. Ben Sherman bag. Sperry Top-Sider shoes. Gap belt. Urban Outfitters scarf. Casio watch.

Hidden Gems

We thought it’d be fun to start off the week with a few Gap items—hidden gems—if you will, that we love and hope you do, too! Little buried treasures we (shamefully!) overlooked upon first glance but rediscovered and had to spotlight. A plush boucle vest that’s boxy and oversized in the best possible way—we adore it over a floral dress with so-right-now ankle boots. Or a flirty, girly, metallic skirt with just the right amount of pleating to wear with opaque black tights on Christmas Day, a sequin halter on New Year’s Eve, and a button-up shirt your first day back at work in 2012 (that’s just how much we want it!). Finally, a cute bow belt in red hot, hot patent to tame a billowy blouse or cinch a sleek LBD. What do you think—found any hidden gems of your own?

We’re sweater crazy around here so we really like how this blogger styled our slouchy striped knit. [Cryskay]

Hey, SF! What’s your favorite tune? Head to Chestnut and pick the shopping soundtrack. That reminds us—have you listened to our Joy It Up mix yet? [Racked]

Who doesn’t like a little sparkle in their weekend wear? Into how this blogger adds some shine to her 1969s. [Stay in the Lines]

Trend alert! Question: Are you rocking the new midi skirt this season? We’re inspired by this blogger’s skirted winter look. [Sidewalk Ready]

Blazer on blazer? That’s something we’re going to try. We might completely steal this blogger’s style and add our heels, too! [The Style Safari]

Trend We Love: Bright Nails

One trend we can’t seem to ignore these days is bright nails. It seems the days of au naturel are long gone. Why the glossy fuss over Vigilant Violets, Crackled Crimsons, and Dandelion Dreams? Looks like it’s the perfect recession friendly pick-me-up—according to a recent report in WWD, nail polish sales are up a whopping 59% from last year. With all of the potent polish buzz in the air, it’s only fitting that GapKids get in on the action with some adorable mini bottles in an array of glittery shades and classic colors both mom and her little one(s) can appreciate. We particularly love this coral-based three-pack, amped up in the cute department by its star-shaped bottle. This is one stocking stuffer and cheap beauty steal we couldn’t resist sharing! Available in select Gap stores.

Pop-Up Shop: Gifts of Color

While we might be saving our true color explosion for spring (stay tuned!), Gap’s latest bright idea is happily warding off our winter blues. This latest collaboration with brands we love finds a dizzying
array of Pantone mugs and journals, Coloud headphones, Moleskin notebooks, artful coffee table books, and O Clock mix-n-match watches making a chromatic style statement in five in-store pop-up shops
They’re open now through December 29 so if you need any last-minute stocking stuffers…(hint: everything’s under $50!). Following a minor shopping spree here last week we got kind of into it allat any given time in our office, you might see a row of pretty pink headphones bopping along to the beat.

If you’re in the neighborhood (that is LA, SF or NYC) on December 14 come down to the Gap and join your local FabSugar editors for an evening of shopping, cocktails, and live music. Bonus: all attending get 20% off this special collection of gifts for one night only.

For the Kids: Style Mixtape

Confession: we’re mildly obsessed with Maria Aragon and our I Want Candy music video (but who isn’t, right?). Channeling our inspiration/jealousy, we asked one of our GapMag friends if we could borrow her niece and nephew for an impromptu photo shoot, based on other cheesy pop songs we love. Total cuties, Drew and Cate, worked it out in neon, tulle, and some wildly cool prints for four looks that totally rock. But, tell us—where do your little ones get their style inspiration?

Gapeteria: Look of the Day

Jared keeps it simple, but we like his modern take on guy classics like layered henleys, plaid flannels, and denim. The twist is usually in the shoes. Sometimes in color play, too. Spying both, we snapped his pic. Tomato red TOMS; moccasins for which he is occasionally mocked. But he stands by this footwear fave, destroying pair after pair and investing in evermore adventurous shades for the good of giving back.

44mm flannel. 1969 skinny fit jeans. TOMS shoes.
